Bringing your spouse or partner to the UK requires a Family Visa — commonly known as the Spouse Visa. Following major changes in April 2024, the financial requirement has risen significantly. This guide explains exactly what you need in 2026.
The new salary threshold: £29,000 in 2026
Since April 2024, the minimum income requirement for a UK Spouse Visa is £29,000 per year. This is set to rise again — the Government has announced it will eventually reach £38,700, though no firm date for the next increase has been confirmed as of mid-2026.
💡 Tip
The £29,000 threshold is based on the sponsor's income — not the applicant's. Your income from your home country generally does not count toward this requirement.
