Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to get ILR on a Global Talent visa?β–Ύ

You can apply for ILR after just 3 years of continuous residence on the Global Talent visa β€” compared to 5 years on most other visas. This makes it one of the fastest routes to settlement in the UK.

What is the difference between Exceptional Talent and Exceptional Promise?β–Ύ

"Exceptional Talent" is for established leaders with a significant track record. "Exceptional Promise" is for emerging leaders who show strong potential. Each endorsing body publishes specific criteria for both tiers on their websites.

Can I freelance or start a business on the Global Talent visa?β–Ύ

Yes β€” the Global Talent visa has no restrictions on the type of work. You can be employed, self-employed, run a company, or do a combination. This is a major advantage over the Skilled Worker visa which requires a specific employer.

Is there a minimum salary for the Global Talent visa?β–Ύ

No minimum salary. You do not need a job offer at all. This is one of the most flexible UK work visas available.

What happened to Tech Nation endorsements?β–Ύ

Tech Nation closed in 2023. UKRI (UK Research and Innovation) now handles digital technology endorsements. The process and criteria are similar, but applications now go to UKRI. Check ukri.org for current guidance.
